Total films watched in 2011: 23

Overall, a strong month, of note, I caught up on a lot of newer releases with more to follow suit but hope to insert more critically acclaimed and varied stuff into my queue for March. If anyone would like to discuss any of the films, hear my opinion, share theirs, etc. please leave a comment here and we can start a dialogue. My new goal is 125 movies which I have no doubt I'll be able to attain. I have a good feeling March is going to be a strong viewing month and I've already got a lot of interesting stuff at home waiting to be spun. Until next month be well and next time you're having your own movie marathon count me in as an honorary attendee!

  1. The Last Exorcism = fail? Wasn't sure how to gauge it from the preview.

  2. actually not that bad.. - shot a la Blair Witch it builds some decent suspense and is an interesting premise of a pastor bringing a documentary crew along to prove exorcisms are a hoax only to be confronted with an actual demon from hell..

worse thing I've seen by far was Salt.. - it was touted as action-packed but I found it lifeless and dull..

  3. Really, Brian? I thought "Salt" was the only decent action movie last summer, aside from "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World".

I recently acquired Francis Ford Coppola's latest film, "Tetro", on DVD for $7; other titles I've procured include "Dead Again" (1991), "Mrs. Parker & The Vicious Circle", a really cool-looking indie flick from the director of "Secretary" based on a short story penned by the guy who wrote "The Grifters" entitled "Hit Me" (starring Elias Koteas and William H. Macy), "Be Kind Rewind", "Chungking Express", "The Outer Limits - Season One" (1960s) ($10!), Season One of "Six Feet Under" ($15!). Plus I have at least two handfuls or so of DVDs I received after the indie video store I worked at from August-late December closed all of its locations, and I've not watched any of those titles, though some - all seasons of "Mr. Show with Bob & David", "True Romance (Director's Cut)" - I've already seen.

It's just about carving out the time to watch these films, and you're leaps and bounds ahead of me, Brian. Not to blow smoke but I'm merely working all the time and spending the rest trying to play catch up with my DVR or having face time with my roommates. That you have time in the midst of being a student, doting father, and husband to watch all of these movies, well that's pretty damn cool.

Anyway, rambling over. I think I'll watch "Repo Man" or "The Science of Sleep" next.

  4. Jason, well, from memory, summer of '10 was not a particularly strong action season with stuff like Robin Hood, The Last Airbender, Jonah Hex, The A-Team, and Price of Persia: The Sands of Time rounding it out. But you've got to give Inception credit for the best action film of Summer '10. I just didn't get emotionally invested in Salt and found the scene in the end where she was locked w/ Liev Schiber preposterous as they delivered stilted dialogue back and forth while the fate of the world rested on the balance.

Nice to have all those Mr. Show seasons as that's still for my money the best comedy sketch show ever. A pretty nice haul overall. Do you ever write reviews or post thoughts anywhere?

My wife is a nurse and works 3 days a week (12 hr. overnight shifts) and those are the evenings I usually try to cram in as much stuff as possible. I've got my hands full all day with Owen so once I get him down around 8PM i've got 4-5 hrs. of "me" time, so inbetween my DVR, the occasional video game or getting online, movies, wrestling (review it on my other blog), I do what I can!

  5. Brian,

Click my name to visit the blog I've had for almost seven years now, black market wit. I've neglected it for the past few years but maybe I should tend to it once again. After my mother's untimely death in late 2008, I kind of let it fall by the wayside for the most part and then with work, life, and what not, I just haven't taken the time to devote to it like I'd like to.
